Summit Risk Management is in business to help employers avoid costly lawsuits, government fines, worker injuries, loss to property, and to help employers become more profitable. Due to the fact that employers face additional exposure and risk each year, our focus is primarily on preventative policies, procedures, and training. In fact, you will see on the Burden of Regulation brochure that 3 out of 5 businesses will be sued, or had some complaint filed by one of their employees or former employees. The average jury award is $250,000, with more than 58% of these businesses having fewer than 100 employees. The statistics are staggering.

Many employers, even the largest of employers, don't realize how much risk they may be exposed to. It is important for employers to "know that they don't know"; in other words, recognize that they may not know all the risk they are exposed to. Once they recognize this fact, then they need to "know what they don't know".  As blissful as ignorance feels, unfortunately, it may not be a good enough excuse to the government, or to the courts.

Once you "know that you don't know", the next step is to "know what you don't know". This comes through research, or getting help from someone who does know. Once you know, then you can begin to implement policies, procedures, and training to help in the risk reduction process.
